What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic Medicine is a unique approach to health and wellness care which emphasizes support of the body’s inherent healing abilities. Its focus is on individuals, not the specific diseases with which they have been diagnosed.
Naturopathic doctors evaluate all aspects of each client’s health, including the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Naturopathic doctors do not treat specific diseases; they work with clients to determine why and how they developed disease and to optimize their health.
Naturopathic doctors are trained in a variety of science-based and traditional healing methods including vitamin/mineral supplementation, herbal medicines, homeopathic medicines, physical medicine and hydrotherapy, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle counseling.
Naturopathic medicine is effective in optimizing health and can benefit anyone with chronic health problems and those who want to stay healthy and prevent disease.
Naturopathic medicine provides many benefits to those with chronic health problems and those who want to stay healthy. A naturopathic doctor will teach you about your health and the dietary and lifestyle changes that will support your body’s healing processes. Nutritional supplements, herbal medicines or homeopathic medicines that support your health and healing may also be recommended.
Through working with a naturopathic doctor you become empowered to take charge of your own health. By taking charge of your wellness through a healthy lifestyle and natural medicines, you experience a better quality of life and long-term savings on medical expenses.
Naturopathic medicine is defined by its overarching philosophy, not by the therapeutics used by the practitioner. The philosophy of naturopathic medicine, and the way I interpret it, is described in the principles of naturopathic medicine described below. Your first visit will be one hour to one and a half hours long. During your visit we will discuss your health concerns and goals and I will take a detailed history of your primary concerns.
